Location: The embassy is a few paces from Karlskirche, a large (and impressive) baroque church in a small park just outside Vienna’s first district. The magnificent building and open space is an attractive event location. In particular, the Karlsplatz Christmas market there is one of Vienna’s best, thanks to its high quality, artistic flavour and an alternative touch that distinguishes it from its more traditional colleagues.
Walk north and west to reach the state opera house then the extensive Hofburg palace complex. Walk east and south to find the giant red army monument, then the Belvedere complex, with its gardens, palace and art collections. Go east and north for the Stadtpark park, with its famous Strauss memorial (very photogenic).
