How to get to the New Zealand embassy
The NZ embassy and permanent mission share the same address as the Australian embassy just off Karlsplatz square.
- Tram D to Gußhausstraße (3 mins) or trams 1 or 62 to Resselgasse
- Bus 4A to Lothringerstraße (3 mins)
- Ubahn (metro) lines U1, U2 and U4 to Karlsplatz (a major station around 6 mins away)
Nearby sights
The embassy is a few paces from Karlskirche, a large (and impressive) baroque church in a small park just outside Vienna’s first district. Be sure to take the panorama lift up into the dome for great views across Vienna.
The open space in front of the church finds regular use as an event location. In particular, the Karlsplatz Christmas market there is one of Vienna’s best, thanks to its high quality, artistic flavour, and an alternative touch that distinguishes it from its more traditional colleagues.
Walk north and west to reach the state opera house then the extensive Hofburg palace complex.
Walk east and south to find the giant red army monument, then the Belvedere complex, with its gardens, palace and art collections.
Go east and north for the Stadtpark park, with its famous golden Strauss memorial (very photogenic).
