Nearby sights
The location is quite convenient for one of Vienna’s top tourist spots: the Belvedere palaces and gardens.
Belvedere has two Baroque palaces. Both the lower and upper palaces have their architectural attractions, but are perhaps best known for the top-class permanent and special art exhibitions. Upper Belvedere, for example, has Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss.
Belvedere has its own landscaped gardens between the two palaces, with two other public gardens adjoining the complex: the university’s botanical gardens and the alpine gardens run by the Austrian federal gardens authority.
Other sights nearby include the modern and contemporary art centre, Belvedere 21 and the Museum of Military History. The latter has some remarkable historical items inside, such as the car Franz Ferdinand was shot in, thus precipitating Word War I.
