Nearby sights
The Australian embassy is right next door to the Karlskirche church, where a lift takes you up into the church’s dome so you can examine the ceiling paintings up close (and get good views across town).
Another neighbour is the Wien Museum (city history and art museum currently closed for renovations, unfortunately).
Go north and you’ll soon enter Vienna’s old town. As you cross the Karlsplatz area, look out for Otto Wagner’s beautiful station pavilions. If you have embassy business around late November and December, you’ll find the park at Karlsplatz transformed into a huge Christmas market.
Go east to reach the Red Army monument on Schwarzenbergplatz and then Belvedere Palace (a major art museum and home to Klimt’s The Kiss).
Go northeast to hit the Stadtpark public park and pass by the Musikverein building and the Konzerthaus: two of Vienna’s prestigious venues for classical music.
